The 3Wave System Provides Power Utilities the Ability to:
Centralize all related event data into a relational database.
Provide accurate fault types and fault locations.
Notify engineers in real-time (within 15 minutes) of double-ended and single-ended faults.
Identify possible misoperations and incorrect configuration/wiring issues with DME analog and digital channels.
Show compliance and develop an audit trail for PRC-002, PRC-004 and PRC-005.
The 3Wave system is composed of three main components, Wavepoll, Waveprocess, and Wavebase. Click the links below to learn more.
Wavepoll
The Wavepoll software is installed on the polling network (within the DMZ), and is responsible for automatically collecting digital fault records, sequence of events records, disturbance records, measurement logs, configuration settings, and health checks in real time from various types of disturbance monitoring equipment (DME) such as protection relays, digital fault records, monitoring equipment, digital meters, and smart sensors. The software includes an extensive library of polling drivers for both proprietary and standard protocols. Wavepoll is a non-intrusive software solution that can be configured in less than a day to start polling up to 2000 devices.
Diverse Data Collection
The DME data collection process includes periodic polling for the latest:

Waveprocess
The Waveprocess Software automatically extracts 100+ key parameters from the oscillography/event files collected by the Wavepoll software. The software uses Line Groups and Built-in Script Commands to determine what data to extract from what analog/digital channels.
Line Groups
The process of preparing DME data for analysis is time consuming. The process includes selection, conversion, validation, alignment, calculation and merging of analog and digital data channels. The purpose for Line Groups is to automate the process of preparing data by using templates and scripts as defined below. The successful use of Line Groups results in significant reductions in the time it takes to prepare data for analysis (from minutes to seconds), and enables automatic analysis and report generation features which include health checks and fault location reports.
A Line Group is a set of fields that identify the analog and digital channels of a specific line in a specific DME such as a Digital Fault Recorder (DFR), or a Sequence of Events Recorder (SOE) or a digital relay. The fields are used for identifying the line’s three phase currents and voltages and associated events, and other related information such as line length, impedance, and remote end identification.
Built-in Script Commands
All the values needed for automation are defined by our custom script commands. The commands provide measurements of prefault and fault vectors for both voltage and current phases. They also include impedance and length values needed for running the single and double ended fault location algorithms as well as calculating unbalances, channels with polarity issues and pegged channels.
Wavebase
The Wavebase Software uses the Waveprocess script command to automatically create tables within a relational database and inserts the data files associated with the template into the tables. All collected DME data files are parsed and uploaded to a relational database.
Data Centralization
Data files inserted into the database include but not limited to:
Advanced Analytics
The Wavebase software contains the following advanced analytics:
Web BI Server
3Wave has the ability to work with most of the Web BI software on the market today, allowing it to create user friendly informative DME reports and dashboards in multiple environments. 3Wave also allows users to set up weekly, monthly, and yearly reports. Some example reports and dashboards are listed below.
